Hello Horror Fam,
Thanks for joining me. I plan to use this platform to keep you informed on all that is going on with me, Alexander “Monstar” Raymond, and the Monstar Horror Universe.
What is the Monstar Horror Universe?
Simply put: It’s the world that I am creating to tell my horror-themed stories. It starts with my comic book RISE OF THE FEMONSTERS and will continue from there. I have a lot of awesome things coming up - more comic books, a podcast, a lot of merch, and plenty of horror talk.
Who is Monstar?
Me, of course! No, I am not a huge fan of Space Jam. I got the nickname “Monstar” years ago. I was (and still am, obviously) a huge fan of horror movies and glam rock. So with the merging of the two, I got Monstar. I have been using that name since the late 1990s. A lot of my screennames have been “MonstarPR” as a reference to my job as a publicist …and because all the Space Jam fans took all the “Monstar” user names.
Origin of “RISE OF THE FEMONSTERS” #0
I had been planning a comic book for some time. As a big fan of classic monsters, like Universal Monsters movies and Hammer Films, I was inspired to create a story in which a group of monsters were forced to work together to save themselves and the world. Kinda Hammer Horror meets The Avengers.
That was the seed for RISE OF THE FEMONSTERS. I wrote the first issue….it was a fast-paced action adventure. My problem was I didn’t think people would invest themselves in the story without knowing the characters. And because it was really packed, I would either have to extend the issue or separate it.
Instead, I went for another option. An Issue #0. Essentially a “prequel.”
I put the comic on Kickstarter, and the horror community, friends, fiends, and family came out to get the book funded!
So that is where we are now. The book is funded and going to print.
That is just the beginning….
